Is your anole being kept in the proper temperature and humidity? Anoles are tropical animals, so they like it warm and moist. Use a thermometer to check the temperature in a few places inside its tank/cage. You may want to get a spray bottle (one that hasn't had any cleaners in it) and spray it and the walls around it with warm (not hot) water. Some anoles don't drink well from a dish. He may not be getting enough water and will lick the water as it runs down the walls.

I'm not really sure what kind of anole you have. There's one called a brown anole, but Bahama anoles (brown in color) and green anoles (they turn brown when they're stressed) are more common. Here's a website thatwill give you info on the general temp and care info on anoles and you can Google the names i've provided to get the specific care info for the one you have:

First off do you know his age and does he have in cage-mates. Have you provided him with proper lighting and areas to climb and bask. As with humans lizards can get bored too. maybe get him a friend or two to simulate him. re-arrange his environment maybe add some new vines or branches, most importantly make sure he is well fed, watered and has the proper lighting on him. Good luck!!

anoles are not very active to start with....mostly if you keep them by their selves....what is their for them to do? also if you house is to cold try putting a lamp over his cage....not a heat lamp but just a regular 60 watt bulb should give him enough heat to keep his blood circulation up...make sure you have lots of terrain in his house...rocks sticks plants, hiding places... mostly he has to have something to do to be active....if your still not satisfied that hes active enough you may want to consider getting a cage mate depending if your take id big enough....and fyi if you know its a male...get a female to prevent fighting....
