what kind of fords? general motors? any others...?

Ford started that decade building the Model T, and switched to the Model A by the end of the decade.

Pretty much all of GM's divisions except Saturn were around then.

Chrysler and Dodge both existed at that time - I'm not sure about Plymouth.

Other American brands included Studebaker, Pierce-Arrow, and Packard.

There were (believe it or not) quite a few manufactures by then. Ford Motor Company, though, was the dominate producer. Some links are listed below.
