I was always told douching is bad for you, but in recent years, I have been getting yeast infections the week before my period (very common according to the doc) and douching the beginning of the week a couple times has stopped it

douching is a solution of something that is usually squeezed by air up into the vagina You can buy ready made bags for this purpose
You might have an infection that is causing the discharge
Have you checked with your doctor.

i had something like this once - called mono something
Had to go to doctor and get pills to insert - also my husband had to get medication too as he had it but it did not show on him
Took while to go away.

doctor says i probably got it at my health club - just to sit on your towel where someone else with this problem had sat before - and then to dry yourself off with the towel would give you it.

I would not try and treat any discharge without seeing my doctor first
Also helps to wear under pants that are cotton - lets it 'breathe' down there.

Good luck.

Good question, pretty simple answer. Douching commonly means rinsing the vagina with water and/or a special solution using a container, tubing, and a nozzle (known collectively as a douche). In the past, women were advised to douche to prevent pregnancy when used right after sex, to treat vaginal infections, to wash away vaginal secretions, and to reduce odors.

Douching is no longer recommended for a number of reasons. We now know that, like most ovens, vaginas are self-cleaning; they continually regulate their mildly acidic environment. Douching, unfortunately, washes away the healthy bacteria lining the vagina, as well as alters its natural pH level. It can also spread existing vaginal infections to the uterus and fallopian tubes, or can introduce new ones that can lead to conditions such as pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). Last, but not least, douching does not prevent pregnancy.

Vaginal hygiene includes daily, gentle washing of the vulva with mild soap and warm water while bathing or showering. More tips on this topic are included in the "Ways to prevent vaginal infections" section of Yeast infection treatments in Alice's Sexual Health archive.

By the way, anal douching, or enema, is used to flush out the rectum; it does not prevent infections, including contraction of HIV
