Sociologists and historians both christian and secular agree that the influence of Christians, and the social changes brought about by the acceptance of c Christianity in the Empire was a strong, if slow, and major cause of the decline of the Romans as a governmental and social entity. It wouldn't seem likely that the smartest guys around would fake a cause or person that would play a major part in their own downfall.
As to excuses, I don't know what you mean. The basic facts of the life of Jesus are well documented outside of the Bible, and independent verification is well established, and accepted, even by those who don't see him as a religious figure of worship.
The Romans themselves give today's world the only in-depth physical description of what he looked like, in an account of his audiences in Judea prior to his death.
Not all Christians deal with questions about Jesus in the way you describe. Unfortunatly, you have never met those whose responses to your questions would be more reasoned and insightful, with resources that are available to any who have questions.
To the best of my knowlege, there is no delay in Jesus, as a very clear and predetermined set of world circumstances must be fulfilled prior to his return, and many, if not most, believe that a majority have occured, but not yet all.
No one, from Jesus to you and I , can be belittled by the actions of others. They may treat you or speak of you or I in a belittling fashion, but you are only belittled if you accept and agree within yourself that they are right. Jesus taught , along with many other spiritual leaders, that a conerstone of faith and love is to stand firm in yourself, that you are able to turn away without anger or malice , those who would try to belittle you, or make you less than all God made you to be.
Your question is insightful, and well stated, I wish you luck in finding the answers you're looking for.

There is one small matter you are missing in your comparison. Your statement that Christianity is only 2,000 years old and was assimilated from a dozen older historical sources is not accurate. Christianity has its roots in Judaism, the Abrahamic covenant which goes back to Abraham - more than 3000 years. Unlike Egyptian mythology, Judaism still exists today. It never "ceased" and Christianity is merely the fulfillment of the promises God made to Abraham in the Old Covenant (Testament). Believers in Jesus as the Messiah continued the faith in the ONE God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, which much later became labeled as Christianity. The teachings of Jesus, Paul, and the Apostles where all from the Hebrew Tanakh (Jewish Bible). Why wouldn't they be since they were Jews? If you remove all of the Old Testament references from the New Testament, you will lose the foundation of Christianity. Every where Jesus or Paul refers to "the written word" or "the scriptures" it is talking about the Hebrew scriptures - there was no New Testament at the time since it hadn't been written yet. You cannot separate Christianity from Judaism. This faith has survived and thrived well over 3000 years and will continue to do so. It will only be a fairy tale in the minds of those who reject it. The non-believers have existed equally as long and will continue until Christ returns. Blessings

I'll answer your questions in the order they appear.
Yes
No, but I believe that Jesus is authentic (what a misleading, rhetoric-loaded question)
No
Yes, but that doesn't mean that he will just because you insult him.
Not really. He never said when he'd come back, so define "delay" in this instance.
