They are just pointing out that this is a historical moment. You are looking too much into the whole thing. It IS a big deal that a black man is running for president because if he wins he will be the first black president. And that is a very big deal and shows how far we are making it as a country now when before they weren't even allowed to vote. It would be the same if it was a woman running for president, or a man or woman from another culture. I don't think it promotes racism at all. It's just letting people know this has never happened before. It's just educating people in the world.

These accomplishments, I believe, are viewed most from a historical perspective than one of the present. Hence, throughout history, achievements of White people have been not only celebrated, but recorded in great detail, and compared to these details, others' achievements pale or cease to exist because of better ones. Although these celebrations seem racist, they are just the American way of saying, over and over, that, "We are a just system," because, unknowingly, white people really feel guilty for history itself. In America the dominant race has always been White and when a person of another race "make it big" then the country feels that this event should be highlighted as, "Look people, this is not a white person!" I don't think thats racist, because of the fact that other races already appreciate the diversity of this country, and white people only feel a little bit guilty.

While it's trut that the media makes a big deal of it when something unusual happens. Hopefully, as such things become more common, the media will leave it be. But no, celebrating MLK day is no more racist than Columbus Day.

no i don't think it teaches children to be racist. people of every race deserve credit. but in school i was tired of hearing about white people and what they did. OK i got thee point in 5th grade and that's all we learned until the day i graduated from high school. ahhh college is way better... they have African American studies classes there.

why do white people get so mad when its not their race being talked about in a positive way????
