Taken from the Merriam Webster dictionary:
What does manipulate mean?
1 : to treat or operate with the hands or by mechanical means especially in a skillful manner
2 a : to manage or utilize skillfully b : to control or play upon by artful, unfair, or insidious means especially to one's own advantage
3 : to change by artful or unfair means so as to serve one's purpose
So, the answer is YES. Manipulation comes in all forms. Parents manipulate their children, children manipulate their parents, husbands, wives, partners manipulate each other, bosses manipulate their employees, schools manipulate students, the media manipulate their listeners and readers, businesses manipulate the consumer, Microsoft manipulates software and last but not least governments manipulate citizens.

We are inadvertently affected by everything happening in the world. From the programmes we watch to the pop stars we see. Certain things and certain images seem to work in the industry and there are so many stigmas. How many people are happy with being a size 14 or size 12? In today's influences, a size 12 is made to feel fat.
As for the government etc. I think most of us are ignorant, myself included. We don't know what they're exactly doing, and as long as the politicians tell us what to hear, most of the time we're none the wiser.
It takes people to stand up to all such stigmas, but the question is, will the day ever come when people are happy with themselves and not subject to manipulation, whether it be through the mind or the body. I think not.

Our freedom to choose is always influenced by somebody. Advertisers hope to be successful manipulators so their profits will soar. Politicians hope to manipulate us into believing they are the best candidate. The media is the means. Actually the media is the cause and means. Then once these media idolized candidates get into office, they forget all their promises and only work to maintain their power. To do that they lie and deceive the public. They believe the American people are like sheep, easily led. Hard to convince them otherwise.

When democrats show a far left agenda after running on a moderate right ticket (most of the candidates in the 2006 Congressional races were conservative, which is really why they won), yes. We're being manipulated.
But there's only so much they can do. Threaten to cut troops for the funding, dems, go ahead. I think you know it's political suicide.
(Isn't it funny how the press says dems are in control of the house because of the war but they won't do anything more than pass a minimum wage law?)

I'd like to think that I am not being manipulated, but one cannot deny the constant barrage of misinformation and objective oriented rhetoric we are subject to on a constant basis - it is pretty obvious that everyone has an agenda or bias, and they try and manipulate everyone else into their camp.
It only takes a minor effort, but if we get our news from enough different sources and determine the truths for ourselves, we'll do OK!

I feel manipulated when anyone influences me towards their point of view. The only 100% truth is what you find in your own experience. In fact, I feel manipulated right now by answering this.

Most definitely. The government - Republican or Democrat - both have their agenda and use just the right wording to implement that agenda. The government feeds the press with these words and sound bytes and they need to have viewers to watch the commercials that pay for the programming so they are the tools of the government. Listen carefully with a critical ear to the words and euphemisms that are used by the politicians.

No. Only those who permit themselves to be manipulated will be manipulated. Take what you see, read, and hear with a grain of salt. Do the research yourself and get the facts.

I agree with janet, she said it in few words and anyone who disagrees with here statement is full of it and trying to cover their tracks, every one should know by now the Zionist own our news media and our politicians , and any politician who goes against them commits political suicide, since they own both the Dem's and Rep's it doesn't make any difference which one is in office they get their bills and laws passed and the American sheepel are happy that their choice of politician was elected, because he promised some insignificant bill or Law, when the important issues taking away our freedom or rights, or enslaving us to some other country mainly the Zionist they don't even notice , meanwhile the Zionist laugh at us for being so stupid, our politicians give us a promise while they get our money and freedom,

Anyone who says they have not been manipulated is just wishful thinking. Everyone get manipulated at one time or another. Example: wife/girlfriend wants to go out to dinner, you don't. The tears come, you go. Child in store wants toy, you say no. Kid pitches a fit, he/she get toy. Boss wants you to do report, you say give it to someone else, boss say but you are so good at doing them, you do report. You are sitting in easy chair reading paper, dog wants to go for walk, bring you leash, whines, licks, walks back and forth, puts front feet on your legs and whine, you go for the walk. Everyone is manipulated by some one or something.
