I have a computer in my attic that i use to scan pictures of stuff, and well last night it decided it didn't want to turn on. Is it possibly because its very cold up there? Any help would be appreciated!

Electronics LOVE 45 degree rooms. What they DON'T like is condensation. If you were to leave it running, 45 degrees would be perfect. As long as it is not humid or damp inside when you power it back up, you are OK as well.

The WORST thing you can do is turn on the heat to 70, and not give the cold metal and circuit boards a chance to warm up. The cold computer will condense the water in the warmer air and you now have a problem. If you power the machine up first you will be better off. If you keep the room at 70 a day or so and allow everything to warm up equally, you should be OK too.

The same issue with moisture happens in the summer when it is 95 degrees and 95% humidity. Dry cool air is best.

I'd have to say... yeah, it's okay BUT if you're going to turn it on under such conditions make sure that is within the operational temperature of the components, especially the processor and power supply. If this was a gaming machine, you could do some serious overclocking without extra cooling, but... aren't you cold (as someone else already said).

Would I use a computer under such conditions, no, no I would not. First of all my liquid cooling system wouldn't function under those temps and that's really not good for your hard drive (or so I would think).

Room temperature (68F to 80F) is generally where I use computers. Oh, variance in temperatures is bad so if you move it to a warmer location... give it a few hours (yes, hours) to adjust to the new temperature before you turn it on.

I would worry about condensation -- especially since it's the attic and the temperature difference between inside the computer and the room is going to be alot ---
