I don't really know that older people are usually racist, but perhaps a contributing factor would be that when these people were born and raised, it (racism) was not as taboo as it is now. It's only after many many years of education and public awareness that the problem of racism is slowly being faced and overcome by a number of people. Most people who are subjected to a tolerance of a problem do not recognize it as a problem, and are probably not even aware they are racist.

Because there set in their ways before racism was seen as a bad thing, but i have to disagree with you i find the younger generation much more racist.

I respect african americans as much as any other human being and i thing racism is bullhockey but ive never heard any people over 50 say anything that could be described as racism. Thats more than i can say about the younger generation and i know this because im one of them im 12, i hope after reading this answer you will still answer my questions.

Because when they were young everyone had a racist attitude. Also some have been in wars against other countries and it may have had an effect on them.

because they grew up in a time where racism was wide spread and unfortunatley accepted, most of the old racists are too old and set in their ways to change their views. Just ignore them because they are the minority now.

Because they were born before Martin Luther King Jr. changed how we treat African Americans and other races. Basically, they got it from their parents.

well i think its beacuse when they were younger they grew up in a society were racism and slaves were occuring
