Update from what to what?

If you have Windows98, go to the link below to see if your PC can handle WinXP.
Windows XP Upgrade Advisor
Check your hard drive to see if it will tolerate WinXP
If your current version of Windows is eligible for upgrade to Windows XP, you can use Upgrade Advisor to make sure your hardware and software are compatible with Windows XP.
Note You may use Upgrade Advisor to check for upgrade eligibility and compatibility information for Windows XP Home Edition with the following exception: It is not possible to upgrade from Windows NT® 4.0 or Windows 2000 Professional to Windows XP Home Edition
Go to this link.

If you have WinXP, and you are thinking about Windows Vista, you will have to check system requirements. I have not seen an advisor for that yet.

In today's paper (1/24/07) there was a lengthy article on Windows Vista. The author was of the opinion that it really isn't necessary for the ordinary user and that many XP users will not wait outside the store at midnight to buy it as they did for Win95 years ago.

I have WinXP and have no need for anything else. Think before you buy.
