I don't think that white people are oppressed. I believe racism exists within every race. I drive a bus and I hear it all of the time. In my personal opinion, the black people that I know and on TV are allowed to say a lot of things that would be considered racist in their own eyes if we were to say equally offensive things about them. I think that equality should be just that.. equality, not permission to treat white people like crap for what our ancestors did. I myself am not racist, have never owned slaves, have never deprived anyone of anything because of their race... but I can understand that there are a lot of unclosed wounds.

I went to a school where black people were the majority and the girls I sat at lunch with made fun of white people all of the time. They'd say, "this is how a white person eats... and this is how a black person eats... Oh, but not you Cyndi.." I was never offended and I knew that they were not truly racist. White people saying they are oppressed is ridiculous. White people are the majority.. although some racist white people have said that other races are "taking over." I think that it is too much of a generalization to judge people by their race.. everyone is different.. everyone grows up in a different household, community, country... but this is what I have observed where I am from.

oh please please please don't give me a thumbs down.. HAHA like I give a crap! Everyone is entitled to their opinion and you are allowed to yours, so rather than giving a sissy thumbs down.. do a proper rebuttal.

Good question and, except for a few crackpots, good discourse on the subject. I would only add that many comments state that Blacks are allowed to have separate organizations, etc. which is racist. That I don't understand. For example, one person commented that Blacks have BET but would be up in arms if there was a White channel. Such channels are pervasive. MTV, if you recall, refused to play Rap videos and most R&B music, only played non-threatening Black artists like Michael Jackson, get the picture. So, BET came along. Now, MTV plays more rap that BET and you can catch more Justin Timberlake videos on BET than anywhere. Same with the print media. The white editor of Good Housekeeping does not print articles on ethnic food or decor. The white editor of GQ puts a rich, well-dressed black man on the cover but does not feature Ecko, ENYCE or Lot 29 fashions. So, you get Essence, Jet, etc. That is not "black racism". That is just providing an outlet for another point of view. Likewise, nobody has called for the disbanding of the Daughters of the American Revolution, The Jewish Anti-Defamation League, the Friars Club, or most of the fraternities at Harvard (wink wink to Harvard grads!) So why get mad if you have black or Latin or Asian fraternal organizations. So long as they are not preaching hate, who cares. That also is not racism.

Black people discriminate against one another according to the lightness of their skin color. In Philadelphia in the early 1900's there used to be a club called the blue vein society which members had to be light enough to show a blue vein in their wrist in order to become members. There was also a paper bag society, where the members couldn't be darker than a paper bag to get in. Now, I realize that a lot of people wouldn't even want to be associated with such clubs, but still they existed. Light skinned blacks were associated with being the upper echelon of black society for a long time, and in some aspects they still are. It comes from slavery when 'Masa' went to rape African slaves and the off spring that resulted were his children who sometimes got the best treatment if there was a best treatment for being a slave. They got to work in the house instead of the fields, and they were usually the first freed since they were related to 'Masa'. Is that what you meant by Black racism?

There is "black racism". It impacts the lives of "white" people because we constantly have to worry about getting jobs or into college or scholarships etc... because we are not considered a minority. Also what about the black only things you have? BET, Jet magazine, black music awards, black beauty contests just to name a few. If we would even try to have a "white" music TV channel or any of the others the entire black community would be up in arms. We are suppose to have equal rights but it doesn't happen either way. Black people get offended because they feel that the are owed the world because their ancestors were forced into slavery. I really think it sucks that that happened but no one living today was part of it don't take it out on us. I could continue to go on about everything but I think you get my point. It's not fear it's more just being tired of dealing with this.

i have an example my cousin wanted to go to a school of choice well the principle told him that they could not accept him because he was white he had to go to a school where he did not want to go where he knew that he wasn't going to get the best eduction.i don't think that white people are oppressed but how can you sat that black people are . they can have black colleges, black miss Americas why is that fair if it has to be one way for one race why not for all of them i believe that you should get the job on your own scores your own talents not because you are a certain race. i have a in-law that is of another race and she tried to get a student grant well they denied her before they even saw her then she put in the same application to the same company with everything the same but used her maiden name well needless to say she then got the grant how is that fair? would you please tell me in the days today how racism affects your life? not talking about what happened in the past i don't agree with what happened but i had nothing to do with that .why is it fair to have a black comedian can call a white person a cracker but when a white comedian says the N word there is an all out controversy?

Everyone at one time or another has discriminated against another person who "is not like them." You would be ignorant to say that you haven't. People are critical of others because it helps with there own insecurities. High school is a prime example of it (in a much smaller scale). Everyone has there clicks because people generally flock to people who are like themselves & have the same interests. It's the people who take it to an extreme and say they don't like someone because of their skin color, sex, orientation, weight, style, etc. that are the most insecure. They are jealous because they don't really know who they are and see that some people do. I think some people are offended because they see the bond that some people have with eachother. It comes down to one thing, human nature, and sadly it will always be around.

Racism is racism, it doesn't matter who it comes from or what race it is directed at. Racism always has an adverse effect on its target, but also on the person spewing it. People should all be judged individually, not by stereotypes.

Black racism effects me. Ive been called cracker, honkey, peckerwood, and other countless names for simply being white. There is a huge double standard in The USA. I admire the way Blacks, Asians, and hispanics can take pride in thier culture. They can be proud of thier skin but God forbid it if I show any pride. Anyway good question man. Peace.

I was at a swimming pool one day and a little boy started flirting around me, and his mother said, " Get AWAY from her boy, that's a WHITE woman!" Now what kind of lesson do u think that sent to her child? Not to judge indiviually, but by the whole group. Which is a lie. That's where ur rascism starts. And if America is going to save itself, we need to be UNITED, not further torn apart.

Black racism affects other Black people and minorities more than it does white people. You should read some of bell hook's books on the subject; she is a spectacular African American theorist and cultural commentator.
