Reason I ask is because we have traveled up to Washington several times and You show your Oregon Drivers License and are not req to pay the tax.

Yes. The tax just went up from 4.116% to 4.712%. Still relatively cheap compared to other states, I think California's tax is like 8%.

Yes. But talk to your accountant as I know that at least some states can get a sales tax refund at the end of the year. Save your receipts.
For those who gave this person a snotty answer, if you live in Oregon and have an Oregon License, many border towns in other states will waive your sales tax. You just have to show them proof of residency. You obviously didn't know this, so there's no reason to talk down to the asker.

I'm from Oregon, too. Yes, unfourtuatly you have to pay other states' sales tax when you travel there, w/ the exception of Washington ( I think they still exempt OR residents there). It is frustrating, using your earnings to support another states agenda, huh? My fam lives in South Dakota & when I visit I get sooo annoyed at their 6% on every dollar I spend taxes. Which they charge on everything - including food!

Hawaii does not have a sales tax. Instead, the state collects a 4 percent general excise tax, which is assessed on all business activities, including retail sales, commissions, rental income and services.

You sure do. Just like if I travel to your state, I don't have to pay sales tax, but I pay sales tax in my state. Makes no difference, you buy something in that state, you pay the appropriate sales tax.
