Also consider getting a transmission flush. If the fluid is burnt then it starts losing its ability to lubricate. Burnt tranny fluid has a specific smell to it...one that I find myself not being able to describe. But it also looses its color, which is supposed to be red, for a more black/brown motor oil look.
Anyway try a good tranny flush which many oil/lube places offer for about $80 bucks. Make sure they change the filter out as well.
If after the flush it still slips then its time to start lookin for a new tranny/car.

I assume this is a automatic trans. Does it slip in reverse also. If it does first thing to check is the filter. If it is ok in reverse then you have a problem in the forwrd clutch pack in the trans. May get a clue by looking at and smelling the oil. Dark brown and or acrid smell tells the whole story.

Do a good flush. The old wives tale that a flush can hurt a tranny comes from people trying to fix failing transmissions by flushing them, and then blaming the flush when it quits all together.

If your tranny is starting to slip when you take off you need to adjust the band's or rebuild it .A tranny flush is the worst thing you could do at this point it will take away what little grip you have left in the tranny.Adjust it or rebuild it .

Are you talking automatic or manual?
Either way, it's only gonna get worse. If it's manual, you might just need a clutch adjustment. If it's automatic, make sure your fluid is full. Don't delay.

if its automatic your bands are slipping and can be tightened, but, it'll be more cost effective to just replace them if yer keeping the car for more than a year or two
