i'm 12 y/o and i just got my period like a day ago. it didn't hurt then and i kinda knew it was my period, and i told my mom. she helped me and told me to wash off and stuff. i put on a pad and then, in the next hour or so, it was so wet, and i had to wash and change again. it's really heavy and i still have my period. it's so uncomfertable. my mom won't let me wear tampons yet, but when i'm a little older, she said she'll condider it. ahhhh, i feel so deprived of my freedom. my period feels like i just pooped and didn't wipe. then it feels as though i just keep peeing on myself. now, it's the 3rd day and my lower back and stomach are KILLING me. i walk bent over in half, cry in bed rolled up in a ball for 2 hours, and spend an hour each time in the bathroom. not to mention, school starts tomorrow, and i have to change do streches + all of my classes are boring we just sit there for an hour while my boring teachers yack in their boring classes. i don't know what to do!!!! please help!!

Firstly if you are in pain, you definitely should invest in some Midol or something of that sort to help with the cramping and pain feeling you have, plus itll help put you mood back into check. It's natural for your period to be heavy, and while it is uncomfortable you have to deal with it. Just keep changing regularly and keep washed up. When you get a little older you can try tampons. Every woman goes through this, so don't worry.

First, take Advil or Tylenol or Midol for the cramps (that's what's bothering your lower back and stomach). Second, as to the pads, tell your mom that you are uncomfortable wearing them and ask her to buy a brand she is familiar with that will be easy for you for the time being. She's been through all this, she should be able to help. Also, if your period is really heavy this time, it may be lighter next time. However, if it does not get lighter, you should probably see a doctor because changing your pad every hour doesn't sound healthy. Also, since you are young, your periods probably won't be regular (monthly) for at least a few months. Note how long it lasts this time because that could indicate how long it will last in the future. Keep in mind that it can last up to a week. If you feel kinda gross, take a shower or use baby wipes. If you carry a purse at school, you can take a package of the wipes with you just in case. From now on, it would be wise to have a pad or tampon with you all the time just in case, as well.

I remember when I first got my period and it was the same. Excrusiating pain and very uncomfortable and pretty heavy. The most you can do is take some pain killers...tylenol, pamperin, etc. For the cramping if you have a heating pad try that..they also make those stick on heat pads made specialy for women and you can wear them under your pants and such..you just stick them to your lower abdomen. I used them in highschool alot.
Curling up in a ball doesnt help with the cramping and may even make it worse. Stretching and walking helps to relax the muscles. Take some deep breaths and try to relax the body which will help relax the cramping.
Regarding school just make sure you've got extra pads to last you the day. Alot of gym teachers (at least the ones i've come across in my life) have been kind to the fact that you've just started your period and may let you sit out the session or do much lighter activities. So go ahead and mention it to the teacher. Hope some of this helps.
Also as you get older you can go on birthcontrol to help regulate your periods and this also helps give you lighter and less painful periods in many cases.

Well Tampons aren't that great trust me and actually if your period is that heavey the tampon will just make you sick to your stomach. I am 23 and don't wear tampons if I don't have to they actually make your period worse ssometimes by the blood clots more due to not being able to go anywhere
Go to walmart buy the pads that you can fluch down the toilet I think there called flush away I know there is a pink and silver box get the ones for meduim to heavy flow . Then buy 3 packs of the heat theropy pads and go buy some pamprin also maximum strenght . This will help you not feel so uncomfotable . Tomarrow it should lighten up some . Where this is your first period though don't be alarmed that it will be irragular and when it comes it will be heavy . I skipped like every 3 months and when i got mine it was really heavy the first three days . Also wear some thick pants . If you have have to wear 2 pairs of underwear to make sure you won't leak through do so . Rather be safe then sorry at school . Don't want that embarrising moment . You can also get those flushable wipes to to make yourself feel clean . Or i know that always puts one in every pad pack to . I just like the pads tht you can flush there not bulking and then you don't have to smell them and it is more descreat like the tampon but won't make you sick ot your stomach . Trust me tampons arn't great and i hate to use them at all . Good luck sweetie and hop I have helped .

I remember very well my first period when I was only 9 years old! How terrible it was! And the pain I experienced was just as you describe it... Sometimes so bad I couldn't go to school for a day or two, spending the day at home in agony...
Something that has always helped me soothe the cramps a bit was putting a heating pad onto my tummy, and then of course there is always the painkillers. The one that helps me best is Pamprin, or even simply Tylenol. Don't take anything containing Aspirin, as it thins out your blood and makes the period worse.
As for the sports lesson, ask your mum again about using the special small tampons for young girls at least for those days
I know this doesnt help, but I assure you the periods will get lighter once they have settled in, and if they dont, you may consider asking your mum to be put onto a birth control pill in a 2 or 3 years.

Sorry so Long: I remember that feeling....believe it or not, you will get used to the feeling. I suggest you wear heavy (thick) pads since you might have a lot of blood flow. Keep extra in a purse, backpack, or locker. Since your mom dosen't let you wear tampons, and school is starting, and you'll be sitting down (which might cause a stain) I would put a swab of toilet paper in the vaginal area along with a pad. But, it needs to be changed frequently, in other words, don't leave the swab of toilet paper or the pad on all morning or afternoon. Also, keep a sweater in your locker just in case you do get a stain. I always wear black pants or dark colored pants/jeans/skirts/shorts when I'm on my period to camoflauge just in case of a stain. Don't go wearing white pants... :) Also, when you do get a chance, stop by the restroom to clean yourself with toilet paper. Hope that helps for the meantime...after a while, you'll forget you're on your period and will be used to the feeling. Don't feel sad or uncomfortable, this is part of being a women. Think about the old days and what they had to do when they had their periods...at least we have pads.... Good Luck!
