I use Internet Explorer 7.0. When I want to answer a question, I just hit CTRL as I click, which opens the question in a new tab. I close the tab once I've answered, and the original list of questions is still there.
In browsers that don't support tabs, just right click and select "Open in new window". This accomplishes essentially the same thing.

After I answer/read a question, I scoot my curser to the left of the screen and re-click the darkest option, usually the place where I had been. I do not use the browser button at the top left of the screen. "All Categories" gets me to other sections of other peoples' questions.

If I want to go back to the question I just answered, to continue browsing down the list, I click on the tiny down arrow which is by the back arrow.
You'll see a couple of pages referring to the question you just answered, then "all categories -yahoo answers" - that's where you want to be.
If I want to see the first page of questions, I click on answers home (top right).
