Honesty is the best policy in these matters. However, I would just like to point out that about 15 years ago I found a bank bag on the street and handed that to the police. The bank sent someone to my house the same evening with a massive bottle of expensive French Brandy, a box of chox a meter square and an enormous bunch of flowers. I've been wondering ever since just how much was in that bag. Best not to know really.

It has been done for me when i left it on the bus with cards I desperately needed in. There was no cash in it when I lost it but the guy at the desk said those with cash in dont often get returned. Would I take the cash? would depend on how right or wrong it felt at the time and what the purse told me about that persons life. If it was full of receipts for junk then the cash would go. If it was an elderly persons on a modest pension it would stay.
Just a case of who the cash would be better off with really

I'm an honest person and would without question, no matter who I thought it might belong too.
When going thru the bank machine at my bank last year I noticed the person that had used it before me didn't take all their money - I took the $20 from the machine and gave it to a bank teller (figuring the person might be back saying they were short on the amount they got)
A couple of months ago at work (very large home improvement store), as I walked thru one department there was a 20 laying on the floor. I took that up to our customer service and let them know where I found it.
Honesty is always the best policy.

I would give it to the police simply because I could not steal something like this from another person. One time I lost my purse and it had quite alot of money in it and I never saw it again. It was the first of the month when all bills were due and I had only paid one of them.
I am a firm believer that if you steall someone's purse it will cost you three fold of what you stole.

I found a purse with my friend one day, it was dropped outside a supermarket doorway. We picked it up and went to the nearest bar and spent the £90 in it. After we got drunk we looked in the purse and saw a picture of an old lady standing with her little grandson, hidden away under the last coins.
I, and no doubt my friend have felt sick of that moment from that day 20 years ago to this.
If it's not your money...don't spend it! I wish it had been a scummy lawyers wallet then no guilt would be involved.

I have found purses & wallets in shopping carts in the parking lots 3 times during my lifetime. Each time I returned it to the courtesy counter intact. I have no idea what the courtesty counter people did, but I kind of wished I would have handed it over to the Manager instead.

about 8 yrs ago i went shopping with my mom...when she went into the public toilets she found a womans bag with all the contents in it....The Police Station was on the same street and me and my mom handed the bag in. The policeman took our details and address.
About 2 weeks afterwards my mom got a letter from the lady saying 'thank you' and that she was telling her 2 young daughters about honesty..
Its made me feel happy that i had helped someone
