Is she breast feeding? Is she formula feeding?
If she is breast feeding, she may need to alter her diet. Something SHE is ingesting may be causing the baby to have an upset stomach.
If she is bottle feeding, Baby may have an issue with lactose. Perhaps changing to a soy-based formula will help.

I have never had a colicky baby so I don't know if this is true, however I read some where a while back that colicky babies tend to get over stimulated rather easily and one of the ways to help them is to lay them down in a dim room with as little activity, light, and visual stimuli as possible. I know it sounds harsh, usually a mom will go running to the baby and try any thing to help them calm down, including diaper changing, bottles, rocking, singing, and playing but all of this "stimuli" actually upsets the baby more. Have her talk to her doctor too, to make sure that it is just colic and not the formula (if he is fed formula), or any other issue that could be causing him to fuss. I think that the sell tablets in the baby department of stores like K-mart that are supposed to help with colic. They would be with the other medicines and bathing stuff. First thing that I would have her do though is talk to her doctor and she what he/she recommends. Best of luck.

most of the suggestions are good ones, i have one more. I heard from three pediatricians that my daughter had colic, but she cried ALL THE TIME, not just for a few hours. I finally found a doctor that checked for milk allergy and three days later she was better!!! we used mylicon drops for the gas and Nurtamagen for the formula. Tell her to keep inquiring about her baby to her doctor and get a second opinion!!

Oh, have I went through this one. First of all, I have found these babies are cuddlers, who like things warm and soft. Soft blankets, wrapped up like a crescent roll is good. They loved to be held. Try a baby carrier/sling. Raising the head of the baby bed mattress (place a catalog or large book under head of mattress) to elevate the baby so his/her milk will go down and settle. These babies tend to drink smaller amounts more frequently. Put baby on belly and rub back to release gas or on back with no diaper for a while helps. It will get better soon and please tell Mom to sleep when baby naps. Good Luck!

Try Gripe Water, the best choice will be organic one, as you don't want to put anything artificial in the baby's body.
Also, there are homeopathic pills (Hyland's - the name of the brand, they are available even in regular department stores like KMart), that' also natural.
Try giving a bath or take baby for a ride in the car or in the stroller.

Unfortunately there could be million things that are bothering the baby, however with colic, sometimes there is just no known cause at all.
My youngest was a crier, and at the reference of a friend I bought one of those baby bouncers (little seats that bounce the baby gently, make a little humming noise) and they are a miracle. I've used them with many of my young charges, and will never stop!

My nephew was the same way. He was around alot of kids that were walking or practically walking, so he was raring to go!! He has since learned to crawl and is learning to walk and now he's fine. Quick fixes we had, were playing with him more...I know he is only 1month, but you have to try soothing them, talking to them, rocking them, feeding them...its not always a remedy...they are babies, they cant tell us what they want so you have to try and figure it out. Also make sure his hearing is ok, I've heard of babies being colicky because their of hearing problems.

I had to switch my girls to soy based formula and I used the Dr. Browns bottles for my youngest daughter. They are a pain in the rear to clean but they seemed to help alot!!So it was worth the time and the extra money.

She may want to try carrying him in a sling, most babies love it and it can calm a coliky babe fairly easily...most of the time. Good luck to them!
