An administrator in Windows terminology is an account which has full control over the OS. A guest account on the other and as very minimal privileges. I order to change the properties of an account you need to be logged in as an administrator or use an account that has administrative privileges.

well if you are logging in a "Guest" then you cant change that account to your own name.

You can creat a new account with your name, but the desktop and everything else you have setup will be back to default.

If this is your own computer then you are the administrator and thats the acount that you should have setup in the beginning when you got it. Try username "administrator" password blank.

then create a new account.

The "administrator" will be one of the IT technicians at your company, or school, or wherever. You just need to ask someone who they are, and get one of them to help you.
