Limewire is music piracy. I love Limewire. If it wasn't for Limewire, then half my music would be gone, b/c I'm not paying $1000 just for music. And that's how much it would cost, if not more. So, I guess I love music piracy. But, I don't. I hate it. It's a love/hate thing. Music industries are used to their multi-millions per year salary. And to keep that going, they have to have the price on all of the music CD's super-expensive. The only good thong about buying the CD's is that the music quality is the best there is. But, I'm not going to go out and buy a CD that cost the company $5, for $15. It's not worth it. I'll go on Limewire. Piece of cake. Well.. kindof... So, yeah. I agree wholeheartedly with that statement.

It is theft pure and simple. The attempts to justify it are non-starters and most people know this. If you had made something you would not want it copied and sold by others with no benefit to yourself.

Worse in London at almost any market, shopping precinct etc. one is faced with up to 20 Chinese selling pirate DVDs - speaking with security at these places we are told they are illegal with no papers, but are more afraid of those they work for than the police. Incidents where they have had limbs broken and forced to return to sell the next day after stocks being arrested are commonplace. So when you buy you are not "just" hurting the music or film industries but you are actualy contributing to something much nastier

Obviously, can be against the law in most countries.

However, thats a legal standpoint .Laws that have been created under pressure from the wealthy movie and music industry and would not have been created in the interests of the public.

From this we could say that it is not necessarily incorrect from a moral standpoint. The entertainment industry is not suffering actual physical theft.
Who is to decide the meaning and value of intellectual property? It should not be upheld by the law.Intellectual property rights should be defended by security precautions from within the industry.

It seems incorrect that a private industry can command the publicly funded legal system to do its bidding.

Piracy is theft and it is wrong. If producers of Intellectual Property cannot expect to make money from their creation, there will be no incentive to produce Intellectual Property.

On the other hand, there will always be somebody with the moral fortitude to pay for the IP and in short, the thieves are really stealing from people who do the right thing.

There should be a statute of limitations on Royalty and ownership rights to intellectual property (there may already be). Just because a piece of work is created by an individual it does not make sense for lifelong derivation of monetary gains for him especially in entertainment items. Even life saving medicines has a time based limit on its exclusivity..

I think it is rather difficult to stop because the mind learns by using music, movies literature etc. If you want to lay all claim to something such as an idea than do not put it on the market for sale.keep it for private use only.

Being a thief (pirate) / deadbeat / slacker was not part of our family upbringing, nor is it part of my ethics today.

With the exception of survival basics (food & water) ,
thieves are like cockroaches & mold - part of the ugly side of life on planet earth and an seemingly endless challenge to get rid of.

I consider it theft.

Usually i pay for what i watch although i've watched the occasional one at a friend's house.

Likewise all the movies and books on my iPod have been paid for.
