Oh Lord, this is a can of worms. There is a lot that goes into bondage. BDSM literally stands for "bondage, dominance/submission, and sadomasochism". There are different aspects to bondage that can range from someone taking complete control of someone's life 24/7, to occasional sessions. The sessions can be free, or some people pay for "professional dominants." It can also be sexual, or nonsexual. This is decided on by both parties. The motto of BDSM is "Safe, sane, concensual." If it doesn't fall into those categories than it is NOT something you need to be involved in.
As a Mistress I take full 24/7 control of someone's life. Their one purpose in life is to keep me happy. That can come from them cleaning my home, to walking my dogs, to working a job and supplying me with an income. I also am a professed Sadist. I get pleasure, be it mentally or sexually from inflicting pain on another individual. Those individuals are called masochists. They make me very happy as they will submit to any pain or humiliation I am willing to give because it makes both of us happy.
Also, surprisingly bondage is relatively cheap in relation to vanilla sex. You can make a lot of bondage tools out of everyday household items such as a brush, clothespins, plastic fasteners, spoons, spatulas, candles, etc.
I also want to add that I was not abused as a child. I do not have anything against men. (I dominate men and women). I do not mess with children or animals or any nasty thing of the sort. The people involved in bondage are normal everyday people who just enjoy a bit of kink in their sex lives.

Tens of thousands, I'm sure, if not more. But they don't all do it to the same degree, and they certainly don't all talk about it with their co-workers, friends, families, etc. So I'm not sure real numbers could be available. Simply stated, my bet is that there are way more than you would guess, and many, many more who are interested/intrigued but haven't followed through on their fantasies.
The thing you describe as bondage can be an almost infinite variety of different activities to a huge variety of extremes. If you are interested in some specifics, I'd suggest you do some online research and see what's out there.
"What exactly do you do" is a question that each person/couple/group can answer a little differently.

That is just a really sick personality trait. These sad people must have suffered terribly in their lives. I have an extensive intimate exposure to far more people than my wife wants to know about and none of them were bondage freaks. I'm guessing the percentage is much lower than that subgroup would like themselves and others to believe.

I am afraid to get into bondage. Not afraid of what will happen, but afraid that I will like it. Because if I really like it then I would have to spend alot of money on it. I would have to by handcuffs, leather masks, that little ball thing they stick in your mouth, chains and restraints, leather girdles corsets, whips and strap ons.....I just keep seeing the imaginery cash register in my head adding these things up. So, I say no thanx. I will stick with my ordinary, cost effective, sex life.

i think there are a lot, but those who admit it and actually play it out is your question. i have and my husband loves it. not too often or its not quite as exciting.
