The age of consent should probably be reduced to 14. After a person has reached puberty, he or she is no longer a child.
Rape is always wrong, regardless of the age of the victim. However, if a 16 year old has consensual sex with a 30 year old and there is absolutely no coercion involved, I do not think there is anything particularly wrong with it.

There aren't so many about. At least no more than there ever were. And I think you must be watching a different news channel to me because I'm not seeing these cases at all. All that's changed is that the press are so much more efficient at reporting such things, and presumably it's the sort of thing people buy papers and watch the news to see!
I also think you have the wrong idea here. While I wouldn't go so far as to say lower the age of consent to 14, like one answerer, many 15 and 16 year old girls / women do look much older, do know exactly what they are doing and can make an informed choice. Our concerns should be about those who are looking for children much younger than this.
Stigmatising the 18 year old who sleeps with his 15 year old girlfriend in the same way as someone who abuses younger children makes no sense at all, and protects no one. The Sex Offenders list should be used properly to keep tracks on those who are a danger to society and children in particular. Too many on the list are not dangerous, and keeping them on the list wastes resources which should be focussed on those who are.
And since I'm on a rant, while I don't doubt many children are profoundly affected by sexual abuse, I worry how much damage is done after the event by well-intentioned adults who treat such children as "damaged goods" and suggest to the children that their lives have been ruined and they can never get over this. Children are resiliant and can put many unpleasant events behind them and get on with their lives, if only adults will let them.

yes it is disgraceful that anybody could molest a child. There is o excuse and no defence. In my view it only happens when the moral boundaries have broken down and the molester feels he has right to his pleasure irrespective of the harm it does to another. this is either plain selfishness or mental illness. i don't think it is in the genes but more likely the way that person is brought up. if the molester was a child i.e under 10 i would say that it was experimentation but anybody older then that should know that it is plainly wrong and the people who tell him that are the parents. sorry got carried away but it upsets me

I was working away from home in Cardiff, in a local pub talking to a local feller, we were having a good laugh together, another local guy that I knew came across to talk to me , he had some one with him , he introduced us, I said "hi" and the usual small talk and shook his hand, he was then introduced to the feller I had been originally having a good laugh with!
He went absolutely bananas, he said in a very loud voice " I don't know you, but I have heard about you, you are a child molester, and if you don't get out of my face now, you'll be waking up in hospital"!!!!
Possibly for the first time in my life I was speechless, I had just shook the hand of a peodo , I was very angry but unsure who I was angry with, was it the feller that made the introduction, my original drinking partner or the peodo?
There are very few things on earth that I actually 'hate' but peodos are top of the list taking away the innocence of a young child or physical abuse of any kid against anyone is yet another 'hate and yet here I was ready to lash out at some one that evening, I had to leave, it was doing my head in.
That has skirted around your question quite well hasnt it? But its made me think again about my stance that evening, I was right to walk away, my mate who spoke his mind was correct to speak his mind, the feller who made the introduction was out of order, and as for the peodo he should not have been free to walk the streets!
All in all I agree with you both for our childrens safety and even the safety of the peodos they should be locked up for ever , it would prevent me from going to jail for decking him, it would prevent other children being harmed , a good idea, lock them up and throw away the key.
While I'm on a roll, I understand that in USA these peodos on leaving jail and go and live in an area and the people in that area are warned that a pedo is living in the district?
That does not happen in the UK, we all know why dont we?
How do Americans just put up with that, can you imagine an average UK family sitting at the breakfast table, the husband is reading the local paper he says to his wife " Oh I see we have a child molester moving in next door soon" His wife replies , " Ah well they must have some where to live I suppose"!!!
I agree with some of that but the choice should be between jail and hospital!

The reason child molesters exist is because of human sin nature. Jesus changes people's lives when they accept Him, but it is obvious that some don't accept Him. Child molesters should be hanged in public on the tree outside the courthouse. If we killed people who murdered and kidnapped, we would not have much of a problem with them anymore, would we?

Man has a sinful nature. These people make choices to reject God and his rightful place in their lives. With God out of the picture, there is no morality - no right and wrong as it were. The fact that you are outraged shows you have a sense of right and wrong. It does not help society to glorify all kinds of deviant behavior in the name of "free speech".
Often these people have been exposed to some graphic pornography or had others molest them. They need to realize that they are hopelessly screwed up and need God to transform them in their lives. I am not convinced showing and discussing lots of wrong behavior on the news every night makes us better people. It desensitizes us, as do graphic movies and obsenity laced songs that promote this sick behavior. Only God can change someone's heart.

I think you are right about the fact that a lot of these people have shall we say mental deficiencies, this I believe makes the likes of Films more powerful to these people, we can all, or most of us can separate fiction from reality, but can these guys? I don't think so, there are a lot of teenagers who can't, and this will continue into adult life, this is basically down to the parents of these people failing to define the difference between reality and fiction. A lot of these peoples problems have a lot to do with upbringing.

Most child molesters are from the child's own family or their immediate social circle. The reason we hear it so often is that the media is currently obsessed with the subject, and mentions it at every opportunity.

They do not deserve a second chance! How can people say that? The affected children dont get a second chance do they? They have to live with it forever, and sometimes completely ruins their whole life. Throw away the key, they should not be released back into society its just putting more children in danger.

i'm uncertain what motives human beings to grow to be a baby molester yet i do no longer think of that it extremely is genetics. i understand the babies who's father's have been rapists and molesters and that they confirmed no indicators of turning into the comparable. And who ever mentioned that baby molesters come from single family members living house holds of single mothers because of the fact of their abusive boyfriends would not understand what their talking approximately. considering that would mean that baby molesters could be specially women and all of us understand that they are regularly adult males. I"m no longer asserting that girls do no longer abuse babies all of us understand that they do yet for the main section they're adult males and that they regularly abuse females. of course there are exceptions to the rule as all of us understand. yet as a rape survivor i've got study as much as i could desire to and there for i understand of what I talk.
