Please use parenthesis.
1. (2x/3) - 5 = - 13
First: subtract 5 from both sides...
(2x/3) - 5 + 5 = - 13 + 5
(2x/3) = - 8
Sec: eliminate the fraction > multiply the denominator by everything....
(3)(2x/3) = (3)(-8)
*Cross cancel "like" terms & combine the remaining terms...
2x = - 24
Third: solve for "x" > divide both sides by 2....
2x/2 = - 24/2
x = - 12
2. solve for "x" > 2x/7 = 4/5
First: eliminate the fractions > multiply the denominators by everything....
(7)(5)(2x/7) = (7)(5)(4/5)
Sec: cross cancel "like" terms...
(5)(2x) = (7)(4)
10x = 28
Third: solve for the x-variable > divide both sides by 10...
10x/10 = 28/10
x = 28/10
*Simplify the fraction in lowest terms, if possible...
x = 14/5

the first problem is x= -12 and i m not sure on the second one. but here is how you get 12
2x/3-5= -13
subtract 5 from 5 and then 5 from 13. and your 5's cancel. so now you have
2x/3= -8
now you multiply 3 by 3 and -8 by 3, the 3 times 3 cancels, so now you have...
2x= -24
now you divide 2x by 2 and then 2 divided by -24 and the 2 divided by 2 cancels. so you have the answer which is
x= -12
