Any idea when we say 'Night Falls' while 'Day Breaks?

Because the sun dips below the horizon, falls and the sun comes up over the horizon, breaking through the dark?

In the evening the darkness starts overhead and descends to the horizon.

In the morning the dawn starts at the horizon and spreads upward.

That's my best guess.
