The worse thing you can do is drive with you foot on the clutch pedal. It will let the clutch slip and will wear it out fast.

Don't know where babygirl come up with that, but you ARE better off changing gears without using your clutch at all. Just run your RPM's up and let off the gas pedal and pull it out of gear and let the RPM's drop about 500 and you should be able to put the shifter in the next gear. RPM droppage may vary from vehicle to vehicle but yes riding with your foot on the clutch pedal is the fastest way to wear out a clutch. Use your clutch to take off in 1st gear and then forget it is even there. I own and drive a truck and have a million and a half miles driving experience and have never wore out a clutch.

Riding the clutch, such as taking off from a stop, taking off with high engine rpm and letting go the clutch very slowly. Riding the clutch is when is slips, slipping is one way it wears out. Another for the bearing, is at a stop light that stays red for minutes, better to put the car in neutral and let go of the clutch pedal. Whenever driving always have you foot completely off the clutch pedal.

Slippage is the main killer on any clutch. Make sure it is properly adjusted so there is free play between the pressure plate fingers and the release bearing. Let the clutch out gradualy and fully as not to cause it to slip excesively. Don't start with a sudden jerk as that will break the cushion springs in the disc. Bob

Also if you use a clutch to hold you on a hill instead of brakes will also wear it unnecessary.
