Nah.
If you gave it your best that is all that counts!

Not if you really tried and did you absolute best. Failing is hard no matter what the circumstances, especially if it was something you wanted. But if you tried and did your best then no it isn't a bad excuse as long as full effort was put into it before failing!

If the person honestly did try and it just wasn't possible for them to succeed, then I don't think it's an excuse. I think it's just an honest answer.
Excuses are for wimps. If you can try and walk away saying "I tried" when you don't succeed, you win every time.

"i tried" is overused it means that i could not complete the task because i lack the effort.
here is how it was explained to me by my old boss.
ie.
BOSS: do this by 2pm
(did not get it done by 2pm)
ME: I tried to get it done but i just couldn't do it
BOSS: you lie
ME: i tried my best
BOSS: that is not your best.... watch
BOSS: run over to the other side of the room
ME: ok i am over here
Boss : now run like your life depended on it
ME ok
Boss: You see how you run faster when you think you are going
to die
Boss: now if i say if you make one more mistake that i would kill
you...WOULD YOU BE MORE CAREFULL?"
ME yes
BOSS you see how easy it is just imagine that if you don't get things done you will die your chances will be better to complete them. no one ever completed anythng by trying.....just by doing
if you don't complete the task you simply failed it doesn't matter if you tried or not.
i tried to save her live ? in this case tried & failure have the same result
i tried to save money? in this case tried & failure have the same result
just like he told me also when one of our associates tried to call in sick, he said "so if you were in vietnam you would just give up & die" assocaite said no. well he said that it is easier at work than vietnam for him to get over to work, to suck it up & that even though he may feel crappy its not like he is going to die & if he thinks that he is... go to a doctor instead of sitting on his but watching the brady bunch half dressed on the couch eating cheese poporn.
Hope this helps

No. As long as you tried your best, that's all that matters.

Nope.. If they supposedly did their best, then you can't really ask for more.
