Number of sets of three =
sets with two women and one man +
sets with two men and one woman
= 4c2 * 5c1 + 4c1*5c2
= 6*5 + 4*10 = 70

Now if a married man and woman are in a group then there are 7 other people who could be in the group with them. So there are 7 groups that are against the rules. So now there are 70-7 = 63 allowable groups.

The rules state that a married couple must not both be selected

that i dont get , how many of the man are married , how many of the woman you need to give that info

without his info i would say 1 man and 1 woman is possible in 4*5 then you have the option of either 1 man or 1 woman

so 4*5*( 3 + 4 )/2
