Seeds and raindrops are quite variable in size. Rice is usually over 2 mm in diamers.

Exactly 1mm, I don't know, but near this value: ant's legs, a dot in printed text, holes in a shower (for the water to leave).

Pick a ruler with division in milimeters, a lens, and start hunting small objects at your home! If you only have rulers in inches, try 1/32 inch; it's a bit smaller than 1mm.

1 mm is the size of quite coarse sand grains.

"Very coarse" sand is from 2mm to 1 mm, "coarse" from 1 mm to 1/2 mm, then "medium", "fine" and "very fine" are each half the size of the one before. Below that is "silt".

I just looked at some granulated white sugar through a magnifying glass, and reckoned that it was mostly 1/2 mm to 1 mm.
