Businesses use advertisements and marketing schemes to manipulate consumers all the time. The average American is exposed to 10,000 manipulative messages each and every day. Think about why they put bread on one end of the grocery store and butter on the opposite end--they want you to walk through the entire store to make your essential purchases so that you'll buy more things you don't need. Why do you think the large popcorn at the movie theater is just 25 cents more than the medium, but both are over $4.00 to begin with? Loan companies tell poor customers with bad credit to "get the loan you DESERVE", yet they don't really deserve it do they? McDonald's decorates their restaurants in orange and red to make people eat more food. Casinos cleverly place the elevators to the hotel rooms at the back end to force customers to walk through the entire casino to get there, and there's never a clock in the place, and they pump incense through the vents to sedate you!

I have a 48 year old guy friend who is one of those that gets "played" by exotic dancers. But....I don't feel bad for him. He is single and makes alot of money - he likes to have the arm candy to take out to dinner. He always has one stripper friend....they last for anywhere from 6 months to a year, and then they both move on. They talk all the time and he gets into the strip club for free. So....they might be "manipulating" him to get free dinner and drinks, but he really doesn't mind at all!

Tons of things.
My BF works in lighting, and has designed commerical store lighting to make the whole shopping experience more addicting- oh, I mean, appealing.
e'll do that, but he refuses to create lighting that messes with chickens' hormones for more eggs.
It's a whole different ethical question.
But yes, lighting can be used to manipulate customers,a s well as many other things.
