I have 3 masonry pillars holding up my carport, the center one has about 100 or more bats living in it. They are neat to have there but their urine and guano droppings are rotting the pillar. How do I humanely remove them without paying someone. I just want them to go live somewhere else so my pillar won't fall down.

also all of the bats are not gone at the same time, so closing it off after they all leave is not an option. Some go feed and some stay behind, then upon the return the others go feed. The pillar is never empty of bats completely.

if there was just one or a few I would suggest getting a bat box (specially built wooden box for bats) then once they get used to roosting in it.... seal it and transport it up to 20 miles away. Find something suitable and very close to what they had before and place the box there. Be sure your not on private property or anything. Ask to see if there is any state land that you can do that on. BUUUUUUTTT you have OVER a 100 that is a Colony. You are going to have a very hard time to make them stop roosting there. They are established now. Call DNR, cause if you call the sherriff or any pest control places then, depending on the breed of bat, the only thing they will do is kill them. I really wish people would stop using the rabies word around bats. Yes there are carriers but not all breeds of bats are carriers. ARGH. Bats are benificial but I understand that they are destroying the carport. Do you have a zoo in the area? If so ask for the bat keepers and see if they can give you better suggestions or some help. there are alot of mis-conceptions with bats and alot of fear and ignorance about bats. Just ask around. This sight can maybe offer some help in understanding how to move them.

Depending what kind of bats they are, it may be illegal to kill them. They are a protected species in most areas. I saw this done where I worked (and it was approved by the environmentalist group): get a shop-vac and suck the bats up (this does not hurt them or even shock them, honestly). Then take the shop-vac somewhere and set them free. This will give you a chance to close up the area, but you'll have to do it fast because once the bats make their home somewhere, it doesn't matter if you take them 100,000 miles away, they will still come back to their home. Good luck!

Once the bats lv at dusk use a bright light to scare remaider away. Then place moth balls up in the roosting area. They will not go bk due to the smell! You can also use a radio to scare them away. They will roost somewhere nearby & make a new home.

Well, I would see if you can get enough money together(some how) because most companies have to kill them just to test for rabies. And also the police or sheriff depts#This is a good question~~~

Er.. the animal is SO... no longer "humanly slaughtered" I propose, how is slaughtering an animal's neck, so as that the blood drains out thoroughly, "humane"! lol! i'm Judeo christian, and the convenience of kosher or halal is that each and all of the parasites and ailments pass out with the animal's blood.
