choosing a hockey stick is a very tricky but fun process, don't get sucked in by a brand name. choose your stick based on weight, flex and the style or type of blade you want,a good stick should have some flex, but not to much, you should feel comfortable with grip and you should look for a moderate curve.
try 3 or 4 sticks b4 you buy
good luck

I bought one of the original Synergy sticks when the were over $200 and am still using it so of the 3 above I would say Synergy. On the other hand if you are a defenseman and have a hard slap shot you can not beat the durability of a wood stick. I see about 2 or more one piece sticks break during an OHL, Junior B or NHL game and if the money is coming out of your pocket wood sticks are still something to think about.

You really shouldn't go just by the brand. As a defenceman, I would suggest a stick with a heel curve and a slightly open face. The heel curve means that most of the blade will be a flat surface which is good for blocking shots plus it gives you a better surface area for slapshots. The best thing I would recommend is looking at which player curves the manufacturers have. Take a look at which defencemen have models (most likely you'll find Pronger, Rafalski, Hatcher, etc.) and start from there on the curve. As for the flex, you should get something fairly stiff.

Go with the Synergy...they've been in the 'game' the longest.
Proven track record.

I WOULD CHOOSE THE SYNERGY, BECAUSE WHEN YOU POKE CHECK A PLAYER IT WILL NOT BREAK AS EASY AS OTHER STICKS ON THE MARKET.
