I believe that a California King is longer than an Eastern King and an Eastern King is wider than a California King. Does that mean that people in California are taller and people in the east are wider?

Are Cal Kings more popular in the west? Eastern Kings more popular in the east?

Curiosity has gotten the better of me.

The people of the East may not be as tall as the people of the West which is why they are not as popular here on the East. They are supposed to be 7 inches longer and 7 inches wider if they are a California King. I happen to have a California King, and if you try to put a regular king sheet on one you'll realize the difference in a hurry. They just don't fit.

In furniture a California King is classified as a 6/0 and a Regular King is classified as 6/6. This is because they take the 6 inches from the regular and make the California King longer. I have never heard of an Eastern King. I don't think it has anything to do with the names. If it does, it's probably because the California King was first released or "invented" in California, and vice versa.

I never heard of an Eastern King, and I'm usually pretty up on this type of thing. A Calif king has an extra 12 inches on the bottom than a standard king. I would guess the name came about in the swinging 70's when California/Hollywood was a sexy place (but that's my own imagination).

I used to work for a mattress store and I've never heard of an Eastern King, but the Cal King is the biggest mattress out there.

The difference between the Eastern king and the california king size beds are of course the sizes. the eastern king has a much more room width wise but is the smae length as a queen size bed. The California king is only 6 inches wider than the queen size but much longer.

Never heard of eastern King. I know them as King or California King. California king is long than a normal king. Never seen a wider king though.

Any mattress store will give you the measurements of the matress.

You've defined them correctly. We have an Eastern King. We had the Stickley company make us a custom sized Eastern King pencil post slat bed with inlays. The Mattress is one of those Duxiana beds. Very nice.
