It depends on which store you bought it from. If it's the original store- then they should take it with the original receipt. If it's a different store- ouch.. highly doubt it.

Where did you buy the ipod? If you bought it at apple.com then all you have to do is show them your recipt or something to proove that you bought it online at their store. I think that should work.

only if you buy it at and official ipod store online can you return it to the ipod store otherwise if you buy it at bestbuy or cicuit city then you have to return to those stores.
