Weak handshakes (like shaking a wet fish) can be seen as submissive, weakness, and possibly deceit.
A strong handshake can be seen as decisive, leadership, power, and possibly arrogance and dominance.

In business etiquette circles your supposed to give a firm handshake, it's supposed to mean that your word is as strong as your hand shake is.
If you give a flimsy weak handshake, people will either think (if your a man) gay or you don't know how to give a good handshake.
OR if your shaking hands with a female and you shake her hand weakly, you may be offending her because she may think that you don't respect her enough to give her a good handshake and that she's not on the same level as you for giving her such a wimpy handshake.
Body language is the majority of communication.

people with weak handshakes are less confident, and ones with firm handshakes are more confident. If I am trying to impress a potential employer, I always make sure to give a firm hand shake and make eye contact.

they say a firm handshake is someone more honest trustworthy but i have met a lot of unscrupulous people that shake hands fine. So i dont believe that should be your only judging factor plus what if the person had a stroke and can no longer shake firmly.

If someone is going to give me a limp handshake, I'd just as soon not shake their hand. At the same time, I don't like someone who wants to have a strength contest with me either. You should shake hands with a firm grip and about the same as the hand you are shaking.

Employers judge you by this, it's the first impression of you that they get, THATS why a firm handshake is important, ya not indian wrestling the guy, just a "Firm" hand shake.

A firm (not squeezing) handshake communicates your enthusiasm, willingness to get to know the person, confidence in yourself, and a reassurance to the person whose hand you are shaking that you are someone to be depended upon. All in all, you are conveying personal stability in a matter of 2 or 3 seconds.

I give a firm handshake when in the business field.
However, I really don't like shaking hands anywhere, even in church when we "share-the-peace". I often find myself saying I have a cold and don't want to spread germs to avoid shaking.
