some models of BMW 's have a common reservior for the brake fluid and the power steering fluid ---- if you call the local BMW dealership and ask for the parts dude and (be respectful) talk to him about your problem he will look-up a schematic of your car and give you the true info --- maybe you visit and have face to face conversation and make a new friend and have a good source to help with other car problems..the power steering pump is located below the line of sight and is a "" remove the radiator and some other parts to change out .. at the repair in a garage the remove and replace work gets expensive ...

Pump rebuild with new seals is often conceivable and if no longer then a clean or reconditioned change pump. Viewing the engine fron the end wheree the belt is so status at the front area of the motor vehicle the playstation pump is topmost to the right no longer less than the alternator

i own a repair shop, and the pump is located on the lower half part of the engine, they did a good job of getting these ones hidden a little ,but that's where you,ll find it ,the reservoir though may be located on the upper part of it,it has a cap with a small picture of the steering on it,and they recommend that you don't over fill them either, this makes a big mess, good luck with it,i hope this help,s.

I've never looked for the pump on my 92 520i, but the reservoir is by the air filter box on the left fender. Just follow the hoses. Mine also takes ATF.
ADDITIONAL INFO:
The pump is on the driver's side bottom of the engine, driven by the serpentine belt.
