yes you get charged for recieving a text message (only if you open it!) so if it's a short text message and you can read it without opening it, the cell phone company won't charge you. i used to get charged 10 cents when i sent one, 2 cents recieved. try getting a plan, i pay 4 dollars a month for 500 texts.

Yes you both get charged unless you are on a unlimited texting plan like my son is. He doesn't get charge for sending or receiving. He just pays $10 a month for unlimited texting and believe me it pays for itself. He doesn't know that you can actually talk on the phone.

Most of these people are right. It's according to your plan. Call the service provider and have your account number and ask. If you and the receiver both get charged then ask if they offer a plan that don't charge. Be sure to have your account number when you call.

In South Africa only the one that sends the text message gets charged.

The depends upon the plan that the recipient has with their provider. Most providers have a variety of plans for the customer to choose from. These include per-use or a number of "free" incoming and outgoing texts or a package that includes unlimited incoming and outgoing texts.

if you and the person u text to have a track phone (like i do) then u both get charged for recieving a text. like if i were to send my friend a text, it would cost me .5 min and cost her 10 cents to look at it (it is different for us because we have different plans). hope this helped, and if not i am sorry for wasting ur time! have a good rest of the day!

You really got to go to www.peekamo.com and register for their free service. At peekamo, you can send free TXT messages to anyone in the USA and Canada from your desktop. You don't need to know their carrier or anything. Best part is that it is free, for you and the person receiving the TXT msg. Peekamo uses SMPP not SMTP. You don't have to worry about spam either. You can create groups too. I'm from Canada where if you don't have a plan, TXT messages to the US can cost upto 15cents! Check it out - it really works and its really free. and no spam at all.

Why pay the telco's when you don't have to right!

It depends on their plan. I pay for getting unlimited text messages every month, so I don't get charged for every single text I send and receive

yes... for most companies it's 10cents per text message.
a lot people are on plans that give them however many text messages for a great price.
I believe there is one company that gives free text messages during the evening.
Ask the person if they have a certain plan.
