It will effect your system if you have not properly maintained your unit. That means changing your filter every 30 days. I would recommend that you at least get your unit serviced twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall. See what happens is, you let your system sit with a dirty filter in it , next it will be your evaporator coil will get dirty and your blower assembly etc. Your will be restricting the airflow to the rest of the unit and you will probably take the Blower Motor out. All I'm saying is you might want to change your filter because eventually it will stop working

If your filter has not been regularly changed and is clogged it could affect your system. Letting a system go to long with out filter change can burn up your system, especially during heavy running months. Depending on whether you are using a gas or electric makes a difference as well. Could be many things. Also depends on the age of your unit. If gas maybe your pilot could be out. You could also have a fuse out on your unit or your fan motor connections could be corroded or disconnected. Probably a good idea to get an expert though. Good Luck and I hope you get your problem resolved.

I think the only reason it would prevent it from starting is if you have left the filter in so long with out changing that it caused it to burn some up.
that happened to my daughter.........She didn't even have any filters. There could be so many reason why it won't start it would be best to have it checked out.
Good Luck!

No not really if you are talking about the air filter (if you are talking about a oil fuel filter then yes) The burn box area really has nothing to do with the forced air heat flow area.. they are intentionaly seperate as if they werent you would die of carbon monoxide... so no thats really not going to keep it from starting (make it inefficient as hell though) Your problem is more likely with a pilot light, ignitor, thermocouple, or controler valve or thermostat or something similar.

Maybe - my brother moved into a rental duplex, and one of the heaters didn't work. My dad took it apart, and it was filthy. He replaced the filter, cleaned up the inside of it, and fixed the messed up wiring, and voila, it worked.
