Ewwwwww all Castor oil does is give them diarrhea. Nasty. I don't get it either. I was induced with both of my children. This was in a hospital because I was a week over-due, not because I wanted to, Induction sucks. I hated it. I guess some people are just impatient. Who knows?

My pregnancy has been nine months of misery. I've been sick and feeling like crap the entire time. I wouldn't do Castor oil because well, I don't want to deal with diarrhea but I'm willing to try sex, nipple stimulation, walking..etc. I'm 39 weeks and I just can't take it anymore. I can hardly get out of bed (in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom or in the morning) I feel like my pubic bone is going to break, I get menstral cramps all day almost everyday, nausea, my back is KILLING me. You get to a point where you don't think you can physically take it anymore. I know that's where I am right now. I've actually never asked the dr to induce or anything and I wouldn't do it at 36 weeks but well, I'm 39 weeks now and like I basically said can't take it anymore. I guess if you've never had a bad/rough pregnancy and have never been 40 weeks pregnant you have no idea what it's like.

By nearly the end of third trimester a lot of women are just fed up with being pregnant and the aches and pains associated with it. And they are probably just anxious to see their baby. Unless there are medical reasons for being induced earlier, doctors usually won't do it until after 40 weeks. They especially wouldn't induce someone for convenience. But I can understand getting induced after 40 weeks, as the baby is continuing to grow and it may make it harder for it to fit through the birth canal. I agree with you, I wouldn't mess with castor oil or herbal teas or anything like that. I'd try old fashioned walking or having sex to get things moving along.

I was a week overdue and got induced with my first. I am now pregnant with my second and hoping that I will get induced. Are you kidding me?? Being induced has nothing to do with being able to pick your child's birthdate...that's just stupid. But being able to get to the hospital and walk in on my own and check myself in..get my family there and relax was priceless. I live over an hour away from my choice of hospital so it was important for me to be able to get there and not be stressed. That's why I'm hoping I will get induced with my second. My labor was long because my peanut did not want to come out but it was a breeze thanks to being induced. I must have missed the castor oil thing...I have no idea what you people are talking about until I asked my mom. Being induced worked out well for me as I'm sure it has alot of people. They only induce if there is a medical problem or you are overdue. You don't to my knowledge get to choose to be induced.

I had to be induced at 42 weeks. It was horrible and I wish I would have gone into labor on my own. I would have waited, but the doctor was worried about me being able to deliver naturally. I have a pretty small framed body and she didn't want the baby to get too big. It is beyond me why anyone would want to be induced, it was so painful for so many hours! Everyone should give natural labor a chance, and if it doesn't happen by the time your doctor wants it to, you're in for a "super-fun" ride!

i went over due with 3 of my 4 babies and i personally would rather not be induced, i did have a cervical sweep ( same thing as swiping the membranes ) but this was when i was already dilating & had lost my plug but contactions were all over the place. and it did seem to do the trick,
i would rather let it happen on its own i have been told its better for the baby. i would NEVER risk using castor oil or anything else that may harm my baby or myself
i must admit i do try the sex route once im over due but thats just a bit of shall we say harmless fun!!!

I think being induced upon the doctors suggestion is OK. Other than that I would never do it again.
I did it for my third delivery because I was a surrogate for a friend and we wanted to make sure she and her husband would be there for the delivery of their baby. But it was the longest labor I ever had and would not be induced again if I could avoid it. You body knows what to do and I agree waiting till it's ready is best unless the doctor's have concern for the mom or baby!

At the end of pregnancy one gets so miserable that they are desperate to get the baby OUT of them. It's like having pregnancy insanity the last month of being pregnant. Thats my personal opinion though, some people are just impatient. but trust me it's miserable the last weeks of pregnancy.
BUT I'd never try any of the home remidies like castor oil or anything thats just dumb. If I went overdue past 40 weeks I'd want to be induced though. Just because I want to have my baby natural and not by c-section. If you wait to long it could be to big.

I was induced at 40 weeks and my labor only lasted 4 1/2 hours, and me and my daughter were fine. If you carry past the 40th week, there is an increased chance of stillbirth b/c the uterine conditions deteriorate. As for "do it yourself" tecniques, they are dangerous and don't work anyway. Although there is nothing wrong w/ having sex, castor oil is not recommended. Doctors will strip your membranes, but this doesn't always work either. I had mine stripped 3 times one week apart and still had to be induced.

When we took our birthing class, we were told that most of the births at our hospital were induced births. We shook our heads, wondering the same thing....why would anyone opt for this?!
Of course, then I got toward the end of my pregnancy, and I was so tired, that I was also wanting this. As it turned out I ended up with a valid medical reason, so like it or not, my doctor induced me at 38 weeks.
