Well, everyone who is over the age of 18 that does not have a felony conviction is allowed to vote. Sounds like a Democracy to me

Hello, welcome to Earth. We aren't a democracy. We are a Republic; we always have been and we always will be. That means that the only things that we get to vote directly on are elections for our leader. 99% of the time, the only people that can afford to run for office and get votes are wealthy, and having an elite name (Bush, Kennedy, etc,) is always helpful.

That doesn't mean that our land isn't free. You don't like a leader, then vote against him. We have elections, free press, protestors, and all sorts of other freedoms. If this was a theocracy/monarchy/oligarchy run by Repubs, which is your implication, then people like you would be arrested, liberal newspapers and TV would be cut off, and our TVs would only get FOX and Cartoon Network.

Trust me, this Republic thing we have is FAR better than either alternative in either direction. We certainly don't wont the gov to have more power, and if the people voted on everything ala Athens, (the closest thing to a large-scale democracy ever) then we would be destroyed like Athens. Remember? Peloponnesian war? The Athenians were too indecisive, voting took too long to save them, and even they instituted a monarchy of sorts. By that time, Sparta was rolling all over them.

Strictly speaking this country was never a "Democracy". It has always been a Republic. A Democracy is a system of government where popular vote wins elections. The US is a Democratic Republic.

The United States of America has never been a democracy. It is a Democratic Republic. If you do not know this, and know the difference between a democracy and a democratic republic please learn it because the people who educated you have failed to teach you.

I still think this country has NEVER been a democracy.

Italy is a democracy. We are a democratic-republic.

And we are still a nation of middle-classers. Unlike any other nation in the world.

And if you haven't stood in line for fresh water today, or scavenged in the forest for a meal, you shouldn't keep bashing on the US.

I never thought I'd live to see so much corruption in all facets of our government....I think our only salvation is if the media would start telling the truth about all issues....but I won't hold my breath...altho I do & encourage others to contact all three major broadcasting companies...all we want is the truth without a political agenda!

I agree that the government is corrupt. But as for it being a democracy I still think the people have control.

We are not a democracy. We are in fact a constitutional representative "REPUBLIC". Labor organizations(for example) can be viewed as democracies.
Please wake up. Here i'll help you.
