I keep losing local network connection and a message keeps popping up saying i am missing a bit of activex. Any sensible suggestion/ help,i would be greatful

For sure you do NOT need Active-X to connect to your LAN - in fact most people either turn off Active-X (or use a Browser such as Firefox that does not even understand Active-X).

Active-X is a means of spreading virus/worms/root kits & back-doors via MSIE.

So (unless you have fallen foul of Microsoft's Windwos XP 'Windows Genuine Advantage' anti-piracy s/w) chances are you have caught a virus ... go find tools (such as HiJack This) & check out what's running on your PC ...
