We are having our child tested for admission to GATE program, but dont have the results yet. However, I remember reading a while ago that children got their IQ from the mother. Is this correct?
Any one know?
Thanks

OK, so there is a typo in my question.
That does not mean I cannot spell, or do not know how to use a spell check; it means that sometimes I think faster than I can type.
There is no need for smart *** remarks.

Thank you for all the helpful replies.

Genetics account for, at best, 40-50% of a child's intelligence. Both parents play a part in this, not just one.

The remaining 50-60% comes from life experience, early educational opportunities, etc.

IQ was previously regarded as 50% nature (genetics) and 50% nurture (environment it grows up in). However, more recent conclusions suggest that nurture/environment plays a heavier role in IQ. So that being the case, the child can develop their IQ from anyone involved in raising them.

Genetically, intelligence is inherited from both parents. It's a polygenic trait, being controlled by several pairs of genes.
