They spend more time acting and less time making fools of themselves.

I don't believe that one country's actors are better than another country's actors. Every country has exceptional actors, Canada, Great Britain, India, Australia, France, Mexico, the United States, just to name a few.
It takes everyone in the movie biz to make great actors. A lot depends on who casts the characters. Which actor will portray a certain character the best? What type of script is it? If a script pleases the actor they will more than likely give a great performance. The rapport between the actor and director has a great deal to do with the portrayal of the character also.
Sorry about the mini soap box tirade. The SAG awards are on right now.

Yes - in most cases. I absolutely love Judith Dench. I love her in "As Time Goes By" and all od her movies. I can't hardly wait for Saturday evening - to watch Doc Martin. Each character is unique in their own way. You have to become accustomed the language/accent. It is one - that you have to get in the beginning or at least know why/what each character is like. We watch PBS - just to watch - the shows with British acting. Masterpiece Theater Sherlock. I like MI-5 British too. Errol Flynn is looked at as an American actor. He was born in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. I like several Australian actors too. We have good ones here but I believe the British are a bit better. I would say a collection of preforming artists in the whole of the UK. Anthony Hopkins - so many more. Oops! Just about forgot Hugh Grant and Colin Firth. Good question. DeeJay.

I have to disagree with your statement. It's much too general!
Are you saying that Robert DeNiro is less of an actor than Ian McKellen simply because he is American?
Granted, British actors have more access to the classics but this does bot necessarily make them better or worse than their American counterparts. It's a matter of style and taste. McKellen may be a better Lear but he would flounder in a film like "Taxi Driver" because he doesn't have the chops to play a New York city character.
Look at Hugh Laurie; he's a success in this country playing an American doctor. Do you think "House" would be as successful if he retained his British accent? I think most audiences would not be able to relate to him if he did.
Just my opinions.

Because American actors just want attention. British people actually act. A good movie made better by British actors is Titanic.
