There are many products but here are a few I know your vet will recommend other than a mineral block. Before you ever feed an iron supplement you should always check with your vet. If your horse doesn't have an iron deficiency and you feed an iron supplement- it can be just as hazordous.

I would like to add though that it's very rare for a horse to develop an iron deficiency and you should have your vet check your horse out and ask that he runs a blood-selenium test. This will test to see if your horse has Alkali disease which symptoms include having an iron deficiency. I'd like to tell you that Alkali disease can be fatal and should not be taken lightly. If your horse is in fact having iron or other vitamin and mineral problems this can harm the respritory, immune, and nervous systems.
Your horse may also have anemia or hepatitis.

There are many products on the market. You should look for a supplement with a high vitamin B content,and B-12. There is a product called Red cell which is extremely good, I also see there is one called Iron horse but i have not tried this product. Here are some links where you can find them.

I used to work at an Equine Hospital where we would recommend a product called Red Cell, available from most local feed stores, also try www.derbyhousesaddlery.co.uk or Robinsons Country Leisure (also on line if you stick it in google). Red Cell is aimed at racehorses & competition horses who have high demands on their bodies, also for horses such as yours with an Iron deficency. Talk to your vet about what they would recomment, presumably you have had blood tests done to know that your horse has an iron deficency?

We had a horse that had a low count. We went and bought mare supplement for pregnant mares and gave it to her, poured it into her feed. It smelled like playdough and looked like little reddish rocks. What we used was called Mare Plus. Also, if you want to buy a feed w more iron, ask the store who you buy from to compare which has the most iron and would be the best for your horse. You can also compare online.

One of hte best suppliments I have used for low iron and low blood cell counts is Red Cell
It works well and the horses seem to tolerate on the food with no issues.
It is available all over the place and is not expensive.

Lixotinic and Red Cell are the two most commonly available supplements. Lixotinic is expensive, but works like a charm. Used to be available only with prescription from your vet, but that may have changed.

You could use Red Cell for a supplement in their grain or you could buy a salt block that has minerals in it. Go to your local farm store and see what they have. Also call your vet. I'm not a certified vet. Nor are most of the people answering your question.

iron excell is the best stuff to use. It's made by TRM ireland. It also gives them a boost and increases their appetite. Trust me I use it all the time on showjumpers.
