Just trying to save a few more bucks this year and was wondering if anyone out there has had luck with a laundry detergent that is well priced per load. Thanks

Ok, I used to go for the budget brands, but if you forget the clothes in the washer for even a few hours, I found they smelled musty. When it comes down to it, I think Tide (with colored "bleach") gets clothes the cleanest with the least amount per load. We stock up on the liquid when it goes on sale (which it does quite often).

All good answers.
I've found that actually measuring the amount of detergent per wash will save more than you'll ever guess. The instructions state how many wash loads-- but if you don't measure, you can't end up with that number of loads. Don't forget small/medium loads, too. takes less.
Another old fashioned method-- for heavy soiled clothing-- mechanic, outdoor worker-- addition of washing soda helps a lot-- usually sold under 20 Mule Team Borax-- but check the label, they also make another washing product.
good luck

I'm on a tight budget too. I had a coupon once for tide and I was AMAZED. I never ONCE used any stain remover, therefore I saved a ton. I was going through a bottle of shout a week before I started to use tide. Also, I don't have to use that much per load. So in the end it really does save me.

ok brace yourselves people case this one is a good one.

There is a company called SA8 who took the best laundry detergent award for 2006 from consumer reports they ranked #1 over 40 other companies including tide. I had to see what all the so-called hype was about so I went to the website below and got a box of laundry tablets the price was kinda high but I got em anyway because curiosity got the best of me And I just did some math work and heres what i got. follow me on this one. 35.85(price for 96 tabs) divided by 2 = 17.925 for 48 tabs then i did 17.925 divided by 48 and got 0.3734375 rounded thats about .38 cents per load. Aw and here's the best part that stuff actually works my co-workers actually think I bought new pants to work in but they just saw 3 pair of the same ones literally restored. this stuff cleans like a wizard I've never seen anything like that before that actually works. thanks (ch)

Any WALMART brand detergent is a good deal for a lot less money.
On top of that, boost the cleaning power of your detergent by adding 20-Mule Team Borax to your wash water.
It'll make all the difference in the world!

I like Purex Liquid Detergent, it comes with a color safe bleach, plain, unscented, nicely scented and with fabric softener. I prefer with the color safe bleach - seems to work well for us. It costs less than most other liquids and I have used it for the past 3 years (tried lots of others, am 58 years old so I've done LOTS of laundry.

Era is the name of a detergent I have been using for a long time. it comes in all different sizes. I buy the 300oz. you only need a very small amount. 300oz. is $11 but it prevents you from going through lots of bottles where you have to use alot of soap on every wash

I get Bi-O-Kleen laundry powder in bulk at the health food store. It's really cheap, only takes about a tablespoon per load, and smells nice. As an added bonus, it doesn't have any nasty chemicals in it, so it's great if you have sensitive skin ... and good for the aquifer, too.
