Need movie title-1990-92-American enters Asian country-Chased-Rescued by local girl-Returns at the end?

Most of the content is there in the Subject itself. The title is something like 'The ______ of M_____ K____' . It came in the period 1990-92

An American goes into a war-torn country in Asia. He is chased by the army there and is finally rescued by a local girl who takes care of him. She learns to speak some English which is nice to hear. At the end, he finally finds a way to escape and go back.

Not sure about the ending though.

It is not Rambo. It is basically a romantic movie. Stallone is not the lead character.

I would like to repeat that the main theme of the movie is not war. Not sure exactly why they chase this person, but I don't think he did anything wrong. I really liked the girl's interaction with the foreigner and that is why I want to know about the movie
