My 18 month old had the stomach flu and although I have cleaned it with a carpet cleaner and vacuumed, it still has the "sick" smell. YUCK!

Use the juice of a lemon mixed with water, let set on the area and then sponge up. After the carpet is completely dry, you can sprinkle baking soda on the spot each time before you vacuum.

If you have an 18 month old, buy a carpet cleaner. I have 3 small children and I don't know what I would do without mine. I definitely could not afford to call a service every time one of my kids vomited, or had numerous potty training accident, or, well you probably know already. The first couple times you use it you will have gotten more than your money's worth out of it. There are many of them out there, in all price ranges. Good luck!

Steam clean to extract out the vomit and disinfect the carpet then deodorize. I mean a real professional steam clean system not a hot water extractor, call a pro in ask what their minimum charge would be and ask if they use a "truck mounted steam system" this is the real deal when it comes to steam cleaning.
