"Abnormal", as an indicator of a problem that requires treatment, means that the symptoms have to actually hinder proper life functioning.
Now, I suppose there's lots of quirks that can still be outside the reange of normal, but not dysfunctional...
Like wanting to hang from the ceiling while eating a peanut butter sandwich.
THey only need help if they tend to choke while doing so! See?

By some ancient class of mostly male idiots that sat in dark leather chairs with strange facial hair and strange sexual thoughts about their mothers that they projected onto everything and everyone else...One of which was, not to mention, an intentional drug addict.

Sometimes... A cigar really is just a cigar and "strange" is just a misunderstood, lesser variant of normal.

When you can't function in your day to day life.That's usually the beginning of a mental disorder.Used to be referred to as a nervous breakdown which is a chemical imbalance now.
