contact Sears service department give them the model and serial number on the machine and they can tell you what type of needle to buy. generally you can use universal needles but some machines are more tempermental than others. Good Luck!

Every sewing machine needles have a number at the top/thick part of the needle, it is so small and hard to read, you can read it with a magnifier, or if by any chance you still have the broken needle you can take it to the store and they can determine the right needle size you need.

If the problem occurred after you replaced the needles, then start there with your troubleshooting. If you do a google search, you can probably find (or order) the manual for your machine online. You will need the manual to determine exactly what types of needles you can use.
