How do I write it, and does it have to be typed? Why is a resignition letter important when quiting a job? What does it show? Please help. I appreciate anyone's help.

Thanks in advance.

Here is my idea of a resignition letter.

Dear (Name)

It has been a privilege to work for (company name) during the past two weeks.

I will be leaving the (company name) on February 5, 2007.

My reason for leaving is that after working here at the (company name) I realized that this job is not for me.

That is all I got. How is that for a start? And what should I say after that last sentence?

I have never written one after leaving 8 jobs or so. It would be approprite in the case of management where you want to keep a good relationship.

I would keep it short and sweet. If they want details they can do an exit interview.

Dear (Name of Company),

I am giving you notice of my resignation as of (date, usually two weeks from now). List any reasons but be respectful if you want to keep a good relationship.

Thank you,

(Name)
If moving, add new address or some type of permanent address for you last paycheck and W-2 the following year.)

You just keep it short and make sure if you do type it, that you at least sign your name. The letter is kept in your HR folder to protect both sides.

Hope this helps.

It's good to have submitted a copy of your voluntary resignation than in the future hear, "oh, she was fired." Protect yourself. You don't have to say anything more than "I have been offered and accepted a new position. My last date of employment will be (date). Please consider me eligible for rehire should a mutual need arise in the future" ... keep it simple but don't burn bridges. You would not believe who knows who that could affect your future employment.
