I would say most use land telephone lines. I suppose some my be using cell phone type technology.

they ant not entirely dependant on satellites they use high bandwidth secure internet connections from companies which provide them. and they are not linked with the public domains, if they are they would be through secure encrypted servers. they would be using satellite if inter country communicaiton is needed.

Many are telephone landline based. (like ATMs in 7-11)
