I have heard of some legends and rumours surrounding pregnancy and the gender of the baby - just today, my aunt and my grandmother were guessing the gender of the baby I'm having by the food I'm craving (which is mainly chocolate and anything savoury - especially rashers for some odd reason).
As well I have heard of even an astrological way of determining the gender of the baby, from the sign the moon was in at the time of conception - which proves harder than it sounds, as it's hard to say when you actually concieve.
I would love to hear more of those legends, as I love to hear them either way, and maybe to figure out what gender the baby would be. So far everyone, including myself, is convinced it would be a girl.

The biggest two that i have heard and held true for my first one is the food cravings, salty foods for boys, sweet foods for girls. Then also the heartbeat. If the heartbeat is higher then 140, usually in the 150-160 range it is a girl and if it is lower then 140 it is a boy.
I am pregnent with my second one. Just found out so waiting for my cravings to kick it to see if it holds true again!
Good luck and many blessings!

My answer is not for fun but for real. When I was pregnant, I wanted a girl badly, but an old lady told me that I would have a boy, because of the shape of my belly, and she was right. As you have probably noticed, boys and men have pointed bottoms while girls and women have round bottoms. When the baby is lying in the normal position before birth, the bottom points upward. Have a good look at any visibly pregnant woman and you will be able to see whether that bottom is pointed or round. I have done so since I gave birth in 1964, and my predictions have been correct 100% of the time, just as was the prediction which that old lady in Vancouver was 44 years ago.

I've heard of one where you need a chain(necklace preferably gold) also a wedding band ring(gold also) put the ring on the chain like a pendant and hold the chain up over the palm of your hand and then dip the chain down into your palm raise it quite slowly and the chain will start to spin either side to side or in a circle,i think it was side to side was a boy and circle was a girl. Do this about three to four times to see which answer comes out most. Was my friends gran who told me that but she not about anymore for me to check but give it a try anyway and goodluck

A variation on Sarah's needle trick involves using your wedding ring (assuming you have one. It is the Noughties!) on a piece of thread. Hold it over your bump and wait. If it revolves clockwise, the baby is male, anti-clockwise, female.
Good luck with your pregnancy!

Everyone was sure I was going to be a girl, I wasn't though. Although my avatar is (she is based on a character in a novel I am working on).
Here are some websites on superstitions:
http://www.historic-uk.com/CultureUK/Superstitions.htm
http://www.oldsuperstitions.com/baby.html
But they don't mention much about baby genders.
This book:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Baby-Lore-Superstitions-Pregnancy-Babycare/dp/0951565540
Might be ideal for you. It seems really good from what the Internet says about it.

You hang your wedding ring over your belly with a piece of string and it will move in a circle for a girl and in a line for a boy.

The one I know is get a ring, put in on a string and place over your palm, if it swings in a circle its a girl, but if swings in from left to right its a boy, it has been known to work too. mad

take a sewing needle and tie it to some thread, then have someone place it over your tummy, and if it goes up and down its a boy, side to side its a girl.
