how many floating boards/suares should there be with a tridimensionlal star trek chess set .does it.afect play

i have purchased as a gitf a star trek chess set with 5 floating boards .how many should there be and will it affect the game if any are missing

There should be 3, overlapping "main boards" and 4 smaller "attack boards".
